چکیده
Purpose The paper focuses on an aspect of disaster often overlooked by experts: that memory both as a prevention tool and one potentially contributing to the resilience vulnerable communities in Japan. objective is, more specifically, explore specific source Japan, namely disaster-related stone monuments scattered throughout archipelago. Design/methodology/approach To achieve goals, authors have studied several types materials. First, used “Natural Disaster Monument” online database compiled Geospatial Information Authority Japan (GIS), data upon which based field research study, focused water-related Otsu city (Shiga Prefecture). Simultaneously, systematically searched Japanese newspapers since middle 19th century well archives Shiga prefecture order collect additional information statistical reality these monuments, context their creation better estimate severity our case studies. Findings findings show are indeed structuring elements Not only they present archipelago, but addition, still for most part visited local communities. Second, how this material culture disaster, vector memory, could be understand bring awareness occurrence hazards, especially future generations. Originality/value promote interdisciplinary approach associating anthropology history. study offers new original character about object relating cultural historical fields neglected DDR. provide method suggest ways integrate into DDR policies. Finally, propose overall reflection mitigation.

Biodeterioration of Stone Monuments a Worldwide Issue
The biodegradation is a general action strictly linked in the presence of active organisms, and this is not only unavoidable but it represents a fundamental process of the Biosphere. When this process is acting on « valuable » objects, is named as Biodeterioration. The consequences surely produce a worse condition, and this process is particularly unfavourable when the object belongs to the Cul...
متن کاملThe Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Versus Disaster Risk Creation (DRC)
In understanding and trying to reduce the risk from disasters, connections are often articulated amongst poverty, vulnerability, risk, and disasters. These are welcome steps, but the approach taken in top-down international documents is rarely to articulate explicitly that vulnerability accrues from a wide variety of dynamic and long-term processes. Neglecting these processes-and failing to exp...
متن کاملWhat About Biofilms on the Surface of Stone Monuments?
Bacteria can live either as free planktonic cells in bulk solution, or as sessile cells attached to a surface. In addition to their attachment status, sessile bacteria are part of sessile communities termed biofilms. A biofilm can be defined as a microbial community attached to a solid surface composed of cells organized as microcolonies embedded in an organic polymer matrix of microbial origin...
متن کاملDiversity of Endolithic Prokaryotes Living in Stone Monuments
Stone monuments (statues, fountains, tombs, memorials, buildings, etc.) are apparently indestructible artefacts that were built to last. Depending on the chemical composition and structure, stones may be friendly or hostile to colonization by eukaryotic and/or prokaryotic communities. Among various lithotypes, porous rocks (limestone, sandstone) have highest bioreceptivity. Abiotic factors have...
متن کاملDesign and testing of artificial stone for the restoration of stone elements in monuments and historic buildings
Different structural parts of monuments and historic buildings were based on stone as the main building material, such as masonry and foundation, while many types of stones were also used for decorative, architectural elements, such as reliefs, cornices, corbels, colonnettes. The preservation of stone elements is crucial for the continuity of these structures. Mortar on the other hand is an art...
